Frucom is proud to announce a strategic partnership with a new state-of-the-art processing facility in Shandong Province, China — a move that strengthens our global sourcing network and reinforces our commitment to quality, traceability, and supply continuity.
This new factory is being developed by one of Frucom’s most trusted suppliers, with whom we have built a strong partnership over more than 20 years. Earlier this summer, Frucom’s Technical Manager, Tyronn Kirby, visited this strategic site which is set to become a key hub for our IQF product range, with two advanced lines now in full swing, producing IQF garlic, IQF ginger, IQF onions, IQF chillies, and peppers.
Tyronn shares:
“It’s rare to find a facility so well-aligned with our technical expectations. From raw material handling to final product freezing, the workflow was logical, clean, and compliant with international standards. People management was equally impressive—motivated teams and clear systems.”
Our customers can expect continuity, quality, and capacity as we begin processing with this facility.
Why Shandong?
Located just 15 km from our partners’ existing plant in Rizhao, this new facility benefits from Shandong’s reputation as a leading agricultural and processing hub. The region offers fertile land, robust cold chain infrastructure, and well-established export channels — making it ideal for the production of high-quality IQF and purée ingredients.
China’s expertise in IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) technology — especially for alliums, roots, and leafy greens — is internationally recognised. Frucom’s continued investment in this region reflects its strategic importance and reinforces our commitment to sourcing excellence.
Unique Quality Control: Optical Sorter
One of the standout features of this new plant is its advanced optical sorter. This machine uses high-resolution cameras and sensors to scan produce at high speed, detecting and removing defective or foreign materials automatically. It ensures superior product quality, minimises contamination risks, and guarantees consistently high standards — making it a key part of our food safety strategy.
Why Quality Matters
Cutting corners on processing costs often leads to reduced product quality, cross-contamination risks, and inconsistent performance — consequences that Frucom actively avoids. This new facility reflects our belief that investing in advanced quality control systems and trusted supplier partnerships is essential for delivering safe, high-quality ingredients to industrial food manufacturers.
Processing Lines and Capacity
The facility currently operates two high-capacity lines:
- Line 1: High-speed IQF processing (3.0 mt/h) for diced, sliced, cut, whole peeled, or particulate products, with an annual capacity of 20,000–25,000 metric tonnes. (Operational since May 2025.)
- Line 2: Purée tablets and whole-strip formats (1.5 mt/h), ideal for green asparagus, green bean strips, and similar products, with a capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes annually. (Operational since June 2025.)
A third line dedicated to roasted, grilled, and aseptic formats is currently in development and will further expand Frucom’s product offering by the end of the year.
BRC Accreditation
The factory has had it’s BRC (British Retail Consortium) audit, this month (August 2025) & achieved an A-Grade! This underlines our shared commitment to globally recognised food safety and quality standards.
Products Available
An extensive range of IQF products will be available, including:
Garlic, Ginger, Onion, Peppers, Chillies, Carrot, Butternut Squash, Green Onion, Potato, Sweet Potato, Cauliflower, Broccoli, Cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, Green Beans, Green Peas, Coriander, Courgette, and more.
